Previously Robin Le-Male-Fawssett. Shortened name to Robin
Le-Male in 1962 when parents divorced.
The reason for turning up at Harlow College in 1955, was
the sale of my late Grandfather's house in South Woodford.
We purchased a property in Sheering. It was a convenient
location for my father who was a vetinary practitioner and
could drive to his surgery in Manor Park... on empty roads
in those days!
The first school I attended was Knewnham College in Snaresbrook.
When we moved to Sheering, I attended St Nicholas school in
Churchgate Street during Miss Horsey's time.
My time at Harlow College was a happy period, with many friends.
'Knats' Bywaters, Graham Bass (The Bomb Expert, until recently
Head of School at Kew Gardens), Richard Ellice, Richard Jeffreys
and many others.
I used to cycle to and from Harlow College four times a day,
with a chap called Dartnell, grub being so dire at College.
Getting back to mum's home cooking was well worth the effort.
Lucky we had an hour and a half for lunch!
I attended at the time of 'Spooks' Stapleton (Maths master)
Sid Collier (English) - 'Sid' being a nickname, I think his
real name was Leonard. I was in Keyes House. Other masters
I remember were Harrison (English) Lofts (Maths and P.E.)
and also Purgavie, who took over the Headship after I had
left.
Sadly, I have to report that 'Fritz' the Barber of Market
Street is no longer operating.
1. My first job was working in a hairdressers as a potential
apprentice. My mother had the idea of opening a salon. I soon
found out this was a totally unsuitable job for me. But it
did have the advantage of introducing me to girls... still
my main interest!!.
2. Art College at Chemlsford
3. Technical College - obtained 'O' levels.
4. Share Registrars. City of London.
5. Various stockbrokers. I was a Red Button, a Blue Button
and worked in Dividends, Transfers, Rights etc.
6. Merchant Bank, City.
7. British Oxygen Company. Worked in Medical Sales. Dealing
with anaesthetic machines, resuscitators, surgical instruments
etc.
8. Started working freelance as a writer for the BBC. Did
material for The Ronnies, Little and Large sketches and Quickies
- also many other shows.
Taken ill with a condition called 'Guillaume-Barre Syndrome'
an auto immune disease that completely paralysed me. Luckily,
unlike polio, you gradually recover.
I'm well known on LBC, Talk Sport, Radio 5, Essex Radio and
have been on hundreds of Radio Shows.
Engaged twice, but never married. Still optimistic Miss Right
will turn up.
Because of the flood of immigration to our country, the breakdown
of law and order, the P.C. policies of Lib.Lab.Con., I have
become an active member of the British National Party. Any
old boys interested, get in touch for information.
By an amazing coincidence, I now live in a comfortable flat
exactly located where the Head's office was, looking out at
the circular lawn - now an avenue of houses. I did spend some
time on the Circular Lawn during my time at Harlow College,
for some (shall we say) minor infringements - no doubt well
deserved!
