Peter Madsen
has dug out some great snaps of he and his friends, taken
at Harlow College circa 1956. To check out if you are in them,
or if you are just the curious type, click
here. Peter has also unearthed some photos of the school,
including the table tennis hut (see 'New Pics', below)
Only one old boy has sent us his personal profile this update...
Keith Arthey who was at Harlow College for quite a long sentence:
1957 to 1963. Keith has also left his e-mail address, so if
you knew him... get in touch. To read his profile, please
As for the rest of you... come on you lot, get your profiles
up on the site. Just type them out and send them as a word
doc attached to an e-mail, to
the webmaster,
who'll do the rest.
Also, let us have your e-mail address. Remember, if you
do not want to use your real e-mail address, we can set you
up with an Old Harlovians one (yourname@oldharlovians.co.uk)
that automatically forwards e-mails to your real address.
There is, of course, no charge for this, so please only ask
to use this facility if you want to be super cautious.

New archive photographs
Hugh Jones
sends us some Beatty House photos (at last!) and has
made a valiant effort of putting names to faces. If you were
in Beatty House in 1957
or 1963,
please click on the links and let the webmaster
know if you recognise anyone not captioned.
Peter
Madsen has let us have some photos taken around the school.
They are the first ones we have, that give a clear view of
some of the outbuilding class rooms etc. To view these, go
straight to the first one, click
here.
Incidentally, in this photo, you can just see the basement
window, which, in the 1960's, was always unlocked. Many times
I crept back into school from a night sojurn out of bounds
this way. Forgotten all about it, until this photo jogged
my memory. webmaster
Anyone else do the same? Let us know. See Memory Lane
below.

police/fire brigade/ambulance service were not called and

Bits & Pieces
|
What do you know?
1. Richard Baldry
has asked me to point out that, contrary to what was said
in the last update, he actually came 3rd in Class 2b
Autumn Term 1961, So there!
Click
here
2. Ralph
Smith writes from across the big pond, with some anecdotes
attached to the school
year photo of 1940 he sent in for the last update. This
also includes info on an old boy (Cox-second row - Number:
38) who apparently entered a life of crime after leaving Harlow
and ended up in Dartmoor! Ralph also writes about memories
of Harlow and War... his fascinating e-mail is reproduced
here in full, so if you want a good read:
Lane - see below
What do you know? What do you want us to
know? What can you remember?
3. Memory Lane.
Ralph's trip down memory lane has prompted the thought that,
when all is said and done, it is only memories that binds
us all together. More than that, it is memories shared. Ralph's
few lines about watching aircraft returning from raids on
German targets in France in 1940, really only means
anything to any of us, because we can close our eyes, imagine
ourselves standing on the playing field, or in front of the
school and looking up... we are there...
So, this month a new feature has been added to the site,
so that you can share your memories with the rest of us. Alas,
you cannot post automatically... you have to send an e-mail
to the webmaster. Please check out the new memories
index, so you can see the format the section takes.
