Profiles

Nic Bowman
Nic, (left 64) sent in his profile some time ago, but it is only now that we have got around to publishing it, along with some photos he has sent from Oz, where he now lives. Sorry Nic - webmaster

Get your profiles up on the site. Just type them out and send them as a word doc attached to an e-mail, to the webmaster, who'll do the rest.

Memories

Chris Newman writes...
Photo sent by Peter Careless of staff 1953-1956;chap in dark blazer (6) next to Mr Dames had the name of Watson and I believe he was the PT master.

Mr Jaques was my form master. He met with an unfortunate ending while I was there.I have many memories of that period which I will share at some time.
Tell us more, Chris - webmaster

Anthony Priest writes...
I am an Old Harlovian and was a boarder from 1936 (age 7) until the outbreak of WW11. I was then 11 years old.

School year photograph mislaid during the blitz when living in Windsor, but
somehow my youthful image has survived in the attached photograph: 2nd from
left, row two.

If my memory serves me right the Headmaster then Mr Dames. Secetary a Miss
Jessie and Matron Miss Pearl. Head boy I `believe` was Barnes.
I remember the Fives wall and the Plugging room (a game played with the feet
only) Just don`t ask me what I had for lunch yesterday!!!

Have you contributed to the memories section yet? Send them to the webmaster... today.

Pete Guthrie

Faces from the past
The above photo, believed taken in 1964 or '65, was sent in by Pamela, Pete Guthrie's sister. Sadly, Pete (rear row, 5th from right - tieless) was killed in a car accident in 1977, but we reproduce this rare colour photo from Harlow here, as many of you will remember him and the faces in the photo above, if not the names. If you can put names to the faces, click here.

New Pics

New archive photographs

Melvyn Cousins sent us the photo of Chewy Overton featured on the front page. He took this and two others with a secret pinhole camera! To view these illicit photos, click this link

Tony White's last e-mail to us included a photo of a definitely dubious group, posing in Dorm 3 in 1953. He icludes a few names, but there are some gaps... can you name names? Click this link to view

Gaythorn Silvester has been in touch, with some rare photos of Nelson House in the 30's. Also, a letter of reference for his father written by KL Dames, in October 1939

Nick Haseler has unearthed a photo of KL Dames mowing circa 1952... the mower might be somewhat older! Check it out for yourself by clicking this link

Peter Madsen has sent us a photo from the 2006 Reunion, featuring 3 friends who met up for the first tiime in 50 years! Check it out by clicking this link.

D. Baker has sent us a new Beatty House photo, for Summer 1953. Please visit the photo if you can identify anyone, by clicking this link.

Anthony Priest has been in touch by e-mail. Now, we know for a fact that not many of you reading this know him... he left Harlow in 1937! He has e-mailed a photo of Forms i and II, taken in May 1937... you can view it by clicking this link.

Reunion

Reunion 2006
Finally got around to posting up some photos of the 2006 Reunion.

Reunion 2009
Two "newbies" turned up at the 2009 Reunion... Chris Giffin and Johnathon Howarth. Hopefully they will become regular attendees. To view photos of the 2009 Reunion, please click this link.

AGM
As you may know, the reunion Dinner is really just an excuse for the AGM (a legal requirement... the AGM, not the dinner!). If you did not attend, you can now download (or read online) the Minutes of the last AGM, by clicking on this link: AGM MINUTES

Bits & Pieces

Bonham

Mark Bonham has written to us with a query about the Harlow Cap Badge... anyone know the answer...?

I have a picture of my father Gordon Bonham (1918- 1998) and my uncle
Howard Whitehouse (c 1923-2003) in their school uniform, both of whom I
think went to Harlow College. Unfortunately they are wearing trench-
type coats so no blazer is visible. However, caps are worn showing a
shield style badges. The younger boy wears a lighter cap with a darker
front segment with the shield badge divided into four with no further
detail visible. The older boy's cap is dark in colour with a different
style badge, with littledetail visible. Was the school badge shown on
your Home Page always the same or has it changed through history? Did
the school ever have different badges for different House Teams?

Can anyone throw any light on this minor mystery?

Thanks in anticipation,

Mark Bonham

Paul Lane writes...

Just discovered your web site, and would love to make contact with any Old Boys who attended Harlow College from '58-'64.

Have looked at the web site, and remember Chris McCready, John Pryor & Hugh Jones, but would love to hear from anyone from that time frame.

I currently reside in the U.S. (Arvada, Colorado), and have been here since 1970. I am currently retired after a career in accounting. Have taken a few trips back to England but have not been back there in a while, but would certainly entertain a visit for the next reunion.

I have some school pictures, but am traveling currently and am not certain of the years. I have "year" pictures and Nelson house pictures. When I return home, I will advise you of which years I have.

Has anybody heard from Ronnie Franks, Tony Hardacre, or Ron Burgess, or know where they are or what they are doing?

Looking forward to hearing from anybody.

Paul A. Lane (Nelson House '58 to '64)
